History of Broadway Tower Broadway Tower was built in 1798 by the renowned landscape architect Capability Brown. The tower was originally intended as a hunting lodge for the 6th Earl of Coventry. It was also to be a beacon for the Earl’s second wife, who wanted to see a beacon on the top of the hill from their estate some 20 miles away. As the years and subsequent owners have passed, it has become a popular tourist destination for its panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Over the years, the tower has had many notable visitors, including William Morris, who used it as a retreat. During World War II, Broadway Tower was used as a lookout post, and it played a crucial role in the country's defense. Today, the tower is owned by the Broadway Tower Trust and is open to the public.
